A LITTLE HISTORY
As always, the sacramento bugorama has been a hit for the past 10 years or more. Bugorama Promotions, the same people who run Bugformance run this show every year. The sacramento bugorama is one of the very few shows where you will see vw drag racing, and a good show to go with it. This years show had one heck of a race, and a few dissapointments however. Make sure you check out the avi video's of drag racing.

THE TRIP
The trip to Sacramento from where I live ( Redding, CA ) was only around 2.5 hours. I was not driving my newely acquired 62 ragtop sunroof bug because of alternator problems earlier that week. So I was stuck with driving my girlfriends 94 mustang. To put it nicely, we made very good time to the show, and it's a good thing I dont drive her car on a daily basis or else I could not afford my insurance. Sacramento is around 200 miles south of the Oregon border, and about 6.5 hours from Orange County. If you are wanting to attend a vw show, I would definitely recommend going to this one. You wont be dissapointed. As for arriving at the show, we got there at around 11:30a.m. The minute we get out of the car we hear vws screaming at the top of their lungs at the drag race. An awesome, awesome sound by far. We had arrived.

So we went into the show, checked out some vendors such as WCM, and VolksCafe. The guys at VolksCafe were really cool, and let us leave flyers at their booth, as well as WCM. Most of the other vendors did the same, such as Sara's VW Toys. ( THANKS GUYS!! ) The show was magnificent, a variety of all kinds of VW's, I particularly liked the type2's, and took many picture with both the camcorder and the 35mm camera. One thing I missed was the swap meet, I guess the guys who stay the night in the pits get all of the good buys.

So we sat down at the bleachers and watched tons of VW'S roar down the drag strip. I have approximely 20 minutes of this on video tape! The practice runs for the drag strip ended at 12:00. I went and looked at the rest of the vw's out there, talked to a few more vendors and met up with Dave Cormack, editor @ VW Trends Magazine. It was great to finally meet Dave. We talked for 5-10 minutes and got back to work. Dave invited me alongside the dragstrip to take some pictures with him. I was pretty close to the strip with the pictures I got. It turned out well. Dave Cormack is a great guy, anyone meeting him at shows will get a charge out of him, what a character ! Finally, the drag strip eliminations began at 1:30p.m. At the hill you could see hundreds of people coming back over for the eliminations. An awesome site by far. The Drag's started, with the first set of cars screaming off of the line. Some people were not so fortunate, especially Shawn Geers. His car looked sweet and sounded good, but when the green light hit, he went nowhere. The judges throught he blew first gear. He was eliminated from the start. This was kind of dissapointing knowing how fast his car goes. Bummer.

We videotaped more drags in amazement and saw Dan from oceanstreetvideo down the track a ways. As for the STOP VWOA thing, we had many people volunteering to hand out fliers. I told one guy what was going on, and he said give me those fliers !! He handed so many out into the cars there. Some other people also handed out fliers in the parking lot on windows. Overall, what a great day it is for VW enthusiats. If you can attend bugorama in sac, do it. It rules !!

THERE WILL BE A PART 2 TO THE SACBUGORAMA NEXT ISSUE.
