THE 1999 AFRICAN BEETLE MARATHON
7500 km, 5 Countries in 20 days

The event has been created especially so that the ordinary enthusiast can take part in a spectacular event. It is time for Africa to have an annual "Beetles Only" endurance event that rates among the best ever held in the world. This event was inspired by the great London to Sydney Marathon of 1968 (See VolksWorld magazine, January 1998 issue, pg.72).We salute those that have gone before.
This seems like a real challenge, it is going on in january, here are some of the pictures on the road, below.

Entry Fees:
Entrance Fees vary according to whether you have your own
vehicle or not.
- With Own Vehicle: R 500 per person (Local Residents)
- Without Own Vehicle $ 1500 US per person (International
Guests)

For All Teams:
- Lonely Planet GuideBook Africa, The South (A very
detailed guide book and all you will need for planning)
- 2 x Michelin Map 955 (A comprehensive map of Central and
Southern Africa aimed at overlanders)
For International Guests: (Those with no vehicle)
- VW Beetle or Baja Bug with Certificate Of
Roadworthiness (You will be a nominated driver and the vehicle will be registered in RVE's
name )
- Hikerlite 2 person tent & Trangia cookset
