ALTERNATOR INSTALL/UNINSTALL
By Brock Eastman

STEP 1 - Undo the four 13mm Bolts on the alternator/generator stand.
STEP 2 - Undo the two side screws that hold down the shroud ( doghouse ).
STEP 3 - Undo the 19mm cap that holds the alternator to the belt. Make sure the belt is off.

STEP 4 - Undo the clamp that holds the alternator to the alt/generator stand. Take it off.
STEP 5 - You will now need a second friend to help you if possible, lift the shroud up, and lift the alternator generator stand that holds the alternator, and the alternator should slide right out with the back of the fan. You should now be able to set the alt/gen stand back down into the four screws sticking up through the block.
To Reinstall, just do the same thing in reverse. I think you will be amazed at how fast it will go with this route. Have the alternator shop take off the 36mm nut on the backside of the fan so that you can take your alternator apart and have it fixed. Some motors may vary a bit, but the application is fairly consistent. I Hope this article was helpful.

That Dang Alternator Died on you. Now what ?

Recently my alternator in my 62 ragtop blew up. I went to try to get it out of there, and what a pain ! I messed with it for a while, then I was told to undo the 36mm nut on the backside of the fan, and take it out that way. So I went to Sears, spent $6 dollars on a 36mm socket. I got it home, tried undoing it without any luck. The main problem is that many people put these nuts on with an impact, and you dont have a chance in hell of getting it off of there.

So I looked at it, and took a different perspective. With this tip, you can have your alternator off in a matter of 10 minutes. I have a set of dual dellorto's, so I had to take part of the linkage off, not a big deal, there was only a few bolts. The picture shown has a single carb, different applications may apply for a single carb, but the principle is the same.
