BY BROCK EASTMAN I hope you find some of these tips useful when considering to start working on the body of your VW. Most of these tools can be found at a local harbor freight store at a very reasonable price. ![]() One of the most obvious tools to doing bodywork and paint is a sprayer. You can pick up descent sprayers like this one at your local harbor freight, prices ranging from $20-70 dollars. We recommend talking to the salesperson and asking about the features. They will give you the run down. ![]() Professional type tools such as air-driven sanders may seem way out of the realm of your skills for doing bodywork, but the time you save on doing a top notch job is well worth the extra money. You can justify the cost by the time that you save. These tools will last you many, many years. ![]() Above is a little tool known as the " JITTERBUG ". It is an air-powered sanding block. It can be used when working with bondo, or to sand paint. The Jitterbug is recommended by many as one of the first good bodywork tools to buy. Once again, check the local harbor freight stores for this one. They probley carry it. |
![]() Sanding Boards, or " BONDO BOARDS " are great for smoothing those large flat areas on your Type2. They are also used when " blocking down " the car for paint, and on bondo. ![]() The most basic bodywork tool, the sanding block. These are very cheap, so buy a few so you dont have to change sandpaper. These really help for a smoother finish. ![]() One of the best tools to have when doing prep-work. It is called a DA ( dual action ) sander. It sands in an orbital pattern. It is used with fine grit sandpaper, for featheredging or spotpaint sanding. |
